letter to readers FATHERHOOD: Leading with Love By ChRIs JonEs waits for no one. I love June because it ushers in the beginning of summer, the smell of the grill and consistently warm temperatures. What I like best, though, is the celebration of Father's Day. When this issue reaches your hands, I'll have become a father I t's June. If you're like me you find that hard to believe. The year has progressed with blazing speed and as the old adage goes, the universe for me. I didn't turn a corner on fatherhood until I read The Five Love Languages of Children, by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell, M.D. in 2004. It helped me to connect with and understand my children in ways I never considered. It helped me to speak to them in language that they understood. Consider the frustration we all encounter when we call a customer service line for help. We just want to be heard by someone who understands what we're trying to express. Children are no different. It's not new age parenting – though my grandmother would tell me it is – it's communication, an essential to human growth and development. Much like the year has zipped right by us, childhood does the same. Enjoy the season because it is short; connect with your children, laugh with them and at them, entertain their many questions and feed their curiosity. Fatherhood is amazing and our examples to our children will be forever etched into their hearts. As said Clarence B. Kelland, "My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it." for the third time. This will also be my third son. Fatherhood has been challenging and rewarding and Family Magazine. He's the father of two boys and has another due at any moment.
