Remembering Rob Grogan F ourteen years ago, I sat down in Hyperion to have coffee with Rob and Virginia Grogan. They were the publishers of a nifty local newspaper, Front Porch Fredericksburg, which fea- tured community-based positive news. I admired their vision. I, too, wanted to cre- ate something special for the Fredericksburg community and I needed advice. That conversation helped create what is now Fredericksburg Parent and Family. Rob Grogan passed on February 23 after a battle with cancer. I want to acknowledge his work in the com- munity, his spirit, and most of all, thank him for his words of encouragement to an unsure and inexperi- enced publisher. — Leigh Anne Van Doren R ob Grogan and I were kindred spirits from the start. From our first meeting together at the 909 Saloon where we talked about writ- ing, Duquesne university, and my blog, to the last meal we shared together with our friend Melvin brown at The Hunan Garden on William Street, Rob had a zest for life, a passion for writing and a desire for social justice. He believed in the good in all people. Affectionately known as "Papa G," there was never a time when a smile wasn't on his face. Thanks for the friendship, Rob. — chris Jones
