Martin Davis, an award-winning reporter for national publications, joined the Free-Lance Star as the opinion editor several years ago. While there, he began to do some truly extraordinary reporting and analysis on the school systems in the area, particularly the Spotsylvania County School system. After Marty parted ways with the Free-Lance Star in January, he moved to F2S, a membership-driven Substack newsletter which has grown to be one of the most influential sources of news and information in the Fredericksburg region. Davis also kicked off a podcast with Shaun Kenney, a conservative columnist writing for The Republican Standard (TRS). Together, Marty and Shaun seek to find common ground—or "the why behind the why"-- on local issues by analyzing stories from their differing perspectives. The detail and depth of their reporting has been a real gift to the region. As a long-time advocate for parenting issues in the region, I felt that here was a multi-partisan, thoughtful voice that should be amplified. So, I'm happy to announce that Fredericksburg Parent Gives, Fredericksburg Parent's nonprofit, has joined with Martin Davis and Shaun Kenney to launch the Fredericksburg Advance, a nonprofit newsroom that will amplify both men's voices on educa- tion, local politics, health issues and business. Nonprofit newsrooms provide the kind of reporting that local par- ents need to make good decisions about where to send their kids to school, which local policies to support and how to make deci- sions about their health care. I am so proud to be partnering with Martin Davis and Sean Kenney. I've been having a terrific time put- ting together the nonprofit newsroom that will put our readers first in the upcoming year.
