Now that we parents have a short respite from the hectic morning and evening routine, it's time to shuffle the kids to swim, summer camps and on the road for vacation (can someone tell me if it's cheaper to fly a family of five versus drive these days?). For Fredericksburg Parent and Family, it's business as usual as we bring you the 8th Annual Family Favorites, a 22-page special section featuring over 50 busi- nesses you, the reader, voted as the best in the 'Burg at the services they provide (p. 18-39). You'll find everything from places to play and eat with your children, to the best activities indoors and outdoors. We have a comprehensive list of health care and home and automotive service providers and places of worship. In our Ask the Expert this month, Fredericksburg Parent writer Emily Freehling spoke to Lisa Petty, a family nurse practitioner with Mary Washington Urgent Care in King George County (p. 42). She gives parents the skinny on bug bites and tick care, sunscreen, water safety and poison ivy. With Lyme disease predicted to be a high-risk condition in the Mid-Atlantic in 2022, it's important to know how to manage ticks should your little adventurer return from an outdoor excursion with a tick in tow. Speaking of adventuring, columnist Debra Caffrey encourages parents bored with the day-to-day routine of cooking to turn everything into a kebob in "Put It on a Stick" (p. 8). Make summer food a fun experiment this year. I can attest to this as the one who does the cooking at home that it always feels like it's mealtime and fresh ideas—especially during summer with the kids home all day—are welcome. And with July also comes back to school season. I'd love to hear about your school supply shopping habits: are you an early shopper or a panic shopper? Let me know your take at chris@fredericksburgparent.net. Comments may be included in our August Issue. In closing, have a great July. Summer is when the 'Burg is at its best. Cheers,
