10 Fredericksburg Parent and Family • Stories of Strength Special Issue It's often said that teaching is so hard because it matters so much. We've never felt this truth more acutely than throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Fredericksburg Academy has relied on strength, determination, and grit to keep our mission moving forward throughout the pandemic. Thanks to the foresight of Head of School Karen Moschetto, Fredericksburg Academy was ahead of the curve in planning for remote learning and a safe reopening. Our teachers and teams have quite simply moved mountains to maintain the integrity of the student learning experience at Fredericksburg Academy. April 27, 2020 marked a decade of service to Fredericksburg Academy as Head of School by Karen. This milestone passed quietly because more pressing matters prevailed, but we would now like to invite you to join us in congratulating Karen on ten years and count- ing of extraordinary commitment to and exemplary leadership of Fredericksburg Acad- emy, and also in recognizing the amazing work of our teachers. Team took top honors Leading with Strength, Determination and Grit April 27, 2020 marked a decade of service to Fredericksburg Academy as Head of School by Karen. Karen Moschetto has worn many hats during her 24 years at Freder- icksburg Academy: Athletic Director, Varsity Field Hockey Coach, Head of Middle School, Interim Head of School, and now, Head of School. Other titles also come to mind—counselor, mentor, champion, teacher, confidant, leader, friend. Karen has undertaken these responsibilities with kindness and strength since her arrival at FA in 1996 and we are fortunate to have been there to experiene all of it. Our family congratu- lates her on an incredible decade as Head of School, and we thank her for her unwavering dedication to this community we love. Well done and thank you, Karen. We have benefitted immeasurably from your leadership and are honored to call you our Head of School and our friend. We cannot imagine Fredericksburg Acadey without you! - Cheryl & Dick Hazel and Family Karen and I began our Fredericksburg Academy careers on the same day of the same year. Upon our first meeting, I knew she was destined to be more than a colleague to me and more than an athletic director to FA. As a leader and a person, Karen has a quiet strength about her; a strength balanced by intellect and compassion. I've needed that strength countless times over the years, as has FA. I've benefited from that strength count- less times over the years, as have we all. It's been a tremendous honor to work alongside Karen throughout her career and it gives me great joy to celebrate this milestone with her. She's an extraordinary person, an amazing leader, and a dear friend. Congratulations, Karen! - Patty Estes, Head of Lower School It's often said that teaching is so hard because it matters so much.
