Tip Homemade Laundry Detergent S pring is on the horizon and for MTM, it brings to mind how we can save on expensive cleaning products. Did you know that by making your own you could achieve the same results for a lot less? In this column, the first of three on DIY products, well show you how to make laundry detergent. 1 vs 38 per load I have been using homemade soap for close to two years and estimate that I have saved hundreds dollars. The process is simple and yields 180 top loader and 640 front loader loads per batch at around one cent per load.Measure that against name brand detergent, which is around 38 cents per load.Even if you coupon, you cant beat this stuff! The initial cost for making the detergent is around $8 and leaves you with plenty of ingredients for future batches. One batch makes 5 gallons of detergent, which you will reconstitute to 10 gallons as you use it. It may not smell like your beloved name brand detergent, but by adding essential oil that can be ordered online, you can create a fragrant detergent. Want to give it a go? MTM will be hosting classes on how to make detergent.
