With the economy still in recovery-mode, parents are tightening their belts and looking for ways to cut expenses where they can. Enter: Mommy Trader Movement, LLC (MTM). Last November, Melissa Palmertree, a then stay-at-home mom of three, took a hard look at what lay ahead: Christmas, three birthdays and a new season of clothes just around the corner. Then there was the problem of figuring out how to capitalize on all of the unneeded items cluttered around the house, without the huge fees that came with consignment. She launched an idea: a Facebook group where local moms and dads could buy and sell childrens and household items, for free. Overnight, MTM, commonly known as Mommy Traders, became a roaring success. Pamela Quinones and Jennifer Homendy soon joined the team, and just one year later, the small group of 20 friends has grown into a community of more than 1,700 families. MTM, now a registered small business, also provides information on local deals -- some of which are exclusive to members -- events, household tips and other money-saving tricks. They hold quarterly public sales, and now they have teamed up with FredParent to save you even more money, with special e-newsletters, articles and events. Stay tuned! FredParent is joining B101.5s Chris and Dee in the Morning and Steamers Seafood in honoring a local teacher every month. Novembers winner is Mr. Flaherty, a 7th grade teacher at Dixon-Smith Middle School in South Stafford. Check out Mr. Flaherys nomination by student, Amelia S. Mr. Flaherty knows how to make things fun at certain times, but be serious at others. Hes always making jokes and being sarcastic! He is kind to every student and knows how to make someones day. We learn a lot from him, too. We play basketball to review material and when we need a paper, instead of passing them out like a normal/boring teacher, we all go to the front of the room and he throws them at us at different levels each time. He should be the A+ Teacher of the month because he is awesome from the way he teaches to the way that he treats his students. Thank you!
