So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." This July issue encourages families to discover hidden gems and navigate through the seas of raising competitive, curious and intellectual children. A healthy sense of adventure and stepping outside of our comfort zones brings families closer together. "Explore" Outdoor Activities Check out the Wilderness Presidential Resort (WPR) in Spotsylvania County. WPR is a hidden gem located at 9220 Plank Road. Explore their adventure ropes course (for children ages six years and up), 18-hole miniature golf course, and rock climbing wall. WPR's patient staff took a gentle approach with my frightened 6-year-old child, who was not used to the height of the tree top obstacles, while empowereing my 8-year-old daughter to test her inner limits. The 150-foot zip line at the end of the course is the ultimate reward. Parents, get out there and try the Adventure Park (ropes course plus climbing wall) with your children! Raising an indepen- dent child with an adventurous spirit is a gift that will last a life time. Let their confidence grow through amazing experiences. "Dream" like a local entrepreneur Teach your child to dream like an entrepreneur. The heart of Fredericksburg can be found in our local businesses. Walk your children through our incredible downtown and let them stare into the store windows, engage their senses and teach them that dreams can be tan- gible. Visit our 2018 Family Favorites section of this magazine and check out all of FredParent Winners. They may inspire your budding entrepreneur. "Discover" Summer Camp Let your child discover their true potential at summer camp. FredParent provides a com- prehensive Summer Camp List. Many camps have ongoing enrollment. From pottery to horse- back riding, to martial arts and theater, let your children discover the magic of summer camp. Make this an unforgettable summer for your family when you explore, dream and discover together. Your child will reflect on the courage they showed at the WPR ropes course or remem- ber the first time they experienced summer camp. Personal growth is the path to raising a con- fident and self-aware child. Allow opportunities for healthy competition in the great outdoors and rely on new experiences to challenge their physical and intellectual abilities.
