When my niece was two and she accomplished something that she thought was significant, she would say, “Go me!!!” That's how I feel these days. I've crossed the 100 lb weight loss mark, passed the six month post-surgery date, and ran my first 5K this week. (It's been a busy week!)
To put things in perspective, the last time I participated in a race was October 2012 (before surgery) at my children's school. It was a 1 mile fun run/walk. I wanted to show my kids that running (or in my case walking) wasn't about winning, but about finishing. I finished last that day. I was embarrassed and exhausted as I panted my way to the finish line. So imagine my pride as I ran up Sophia Street Monday morning seeing my little darlings cheering me on. (I tear up just thinking about it…I know, I know, but I can’t help it!). I finished 4th in my age group, which isn't too shabby for my first race. More importantly, I ran the whole race and have a great sense of achievement as a result.
What's next?! I appreciate all the suggestions submitted for my “100 lb Reward” and plan on incorporating a few of them. Thanks to a great idea from my Fredericksburg Parent and Family blog editor, Mary Becelia, I've decided on a fashion makeover with fellow blogger Michelle LeDrew, of High Maintenance Image and Fashion Consulting. I'll be writing about the experience of changing my plus size (hiding bulges) wardrobe into a fun, flirty fashion statement. I look forward to updating my sometimes dowdy style and will share photos of the transformation along the way this summer.
