Back to School Favorites

August 23, 2013

The first day of school for us {Fredericksburg parents} is right around the corner, which honestly just makes me feel like shopping. Yes, I'm crazy about a new box of Crayons (like many of you) and I often sneak an extra box into the cart just for me, but there are bigger and more enticing back-to-school favorites that appeal to me every August.  As I flashback to my own B2S memories, here are a few of my favorite late-summer purchases:

  1. A brand new pair of tennis shoes.  Is there anything better than a pair of squeaky-clean sneakers?  I think not!  Here's hoping that all my school-age friends make it through the first day without a scuff.
  2. A crisp pair of jeans.  Nothing says B2S like new jeans.  Global warming has extended our usage of shorts, but I remember a time when it was cool enough to wear new jeans on the 1st day of school.
  3. New shirts.  The big question was which one of my new shirts would be my choice on the first day.  It was always a gruelling decision and usually involved other members of my family, but I usuallly made the right choice, and then looked forward to my Day 2 shirt.
  4. A fall coat.  This one still gets me excited.  The fall coat teases of cooler temps to come, apple cider, and hay rides.  I remember a long denim, a pretty plaid and a cute trench.  Ahhh, the memories.

I understand that today we live in tough economic times and many recycle from older siblings.  We do this, too. If you are lucky enough to be able to purchase back to school clothes, what would be at the top of your list ?  I'd love to hear from you!
