“Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. Taught by a certified instructor, it's a total body workout for every fitness level. We incorporate body toning exercises using exercise tubing, the stroller and the environment. It's a great way to get in shape, meet other moms and have fun with your baby!”

Last Friday, I was lucky enough to get the chance to workout with certified fitness instructor, Alison (who also blogs! Check her out here), and the ladies of Stroller Strides! Stroller Strides is a fitness class for mamas that meets several times a week, at Kenmore Park, as well as other locations around Fredericksburg. Guys, I cannot tell you how much I love this!
Getting back into a fitness routine after having a baby is difficult for a number of reasons; you’re exhausted, you’re frustrated at how weak your body has become, you have more demands on your time, you don’t have a reliable babysitter, etc. I know. I have a six month old and a two year old. Squeezing in a workout is a logistical nightmare. This is why Stroller Strides is awesome!
Here’s the 411 (Do people still say that?).
You show up with your kids strapped into a stroller and you get your workout on, with other mamas, and their stroller bound kids. Everyone I met on Friday, was super supportive and nice; especially the franchise owner and certified instructor, Alison. She is bubbly, engaging, and very informative. More Bob Harper and less Jillian Michaels, if you will. She’s a mama who knows her stuff and is pumped to get you into shape!
Anyway, all kids are welcome as long as they can sit in a stroller; Four week olds, four year olds, whatever. Is everyone’s kid an angel during class? No. This is real life, y’all. As I mentioned before, all the moms there are super nice. They get it. Kid’s freak out for no apparent reason and scream sometimes. Also, Alison is great with children. She comes prepared with songs, bubbles, etc. So please, don’t feel like you can’t join because your kid might cry. Kids cry. No one will judge you. No one will judge how well you can do a wall sit, either thank goodness.
Aside from a chance to workout five days a week, Stroller Strides provides a very important opportunity: The opportunity for you to talk to other moms and be social. Getting out of the house and creating a support network for yourself is so important for moms who stay-at-home, work part-time, or work from home. Those scenarios can become very isolating, very quickly. Besides, there are few things in life that a good talk, a workout, and some fresh air won’t cure.
If you’re wondering how the workout went… let’s just say I’m still sore. Progress, y’all. I’m getting there.
If you’re interested in joining Alison and the ladies (and you totally should be) here’s their website, complete with calendar and prices:
Are you part of a fitness group? Have you tried Stroller Strides?
p.s. All those adorable kids had a great time, too! I mean... bubbles, snacks, singing, and a chance to run around with other kids once class is over. What's not to love?
