T he weather is comfortable, we get a four-day weekend, and it ushers in the food, family and friends season. Downtown has that unique festive feeling that you just can't get in a shopping center or mall. I'm sure part of the charm is just being out- doors. If it's been a while since you've taken a stroll down the charming streets of downtown, you've got a treat in store. This month, take advantage of Small Business Saturday and rediscover downtown Fredericksburg. In the pages of this issue, you'll learn about the Main Street Initiative, which is respon- sible for making downtown a great place to live, work, play and shop. There's also a fu n piece about the economic impact of local businesses. I love bringing out-of-towners to the 'Burg. The stores and res- taurants downtown offer such a wide variety of options that any and all members of your group will find something to admire and purchase. At the end of the day, you can enjoy a savory meal prepared by talented local chefs. Who knows? This may be the start of a new tradition.
