Why It Matters Today The Declaration of Independence and Revolutionary War were just the beginning for our nation. Virginians like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson may have left a complex yet enduring legacy devoted to "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness," but by learning from the past, we can make changes in the present to aim toward an even better future.
