10 Fredericksburg Parent and Family • December 2025 sponsored material For the vast majority of oral health needs, a visit to the den st is what's needed to get a cleaning, fi ll a cavity, get a root canal or similar procedure. But den sts and orthodon sts at mes spot the need for more involved procedures. That's where oral surgeons come in. Oral surgeons perform procedures such as wisdom tooth extrac on, implants, tumor removal, jaw-realignment procedures and more. These surgeons need to be able to collaborate closely with their pa ents' den sts and orthodon sts. That's why it's so benefi cial that Let's Smile Dental houses all three of these special es under one roof. Let's Smile is a mul -specialty prac ce that provides orthodon cs, pediatric den stry and oral surgery from eight loca ons in Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia. Dr. Injamamul Niloy, a board-cer fi ed oral surgeon at Let's Smile, joins us this month to answer ques ons about some of the most common procedures pa ents receive at Let's Smile. A Florida na ve, Dr. Niloy earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida before obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Columbia University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Niloy received the pres gious U.S. Army Health Professionals Scholarship and completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at Walter Reed Na onal Military Medical Center. Q: Why do most people have their wisdom teeth removed, and at what age should this be done? Dr. Niloy: Wisdom teeth surgery is one of those things we have to go through because there's not enough room for all the teeth, but with proper prep and adequate expecta- ons, most people do well. It is nerve-wracking and it is a lot in the beginning, but I think as long as you prepare well and you have a good understanding of what you are going through and how to take care of yourself a erward, it goes pre y smoothly. We start taking wisdom teeth out from age 13 and older. We recommend doing the surgery on the early end of that spectrum, only because the recovery is so much easier when you are younger. Ge ng this procedure between the ages of 13 and 25 is sort of the golden age before recovery becomes a li le more challenging.
