The Importance
of a Good
Student-Teacher
Relationship
As a new school year begins this month for some, I am reminded of a few of
my favorite teachers who inspired me growing up. Two, in particular, helped
shape my career as a writer: My 3
rd
grade teacher, Mrs. Ronca, allowed me
to stay in her classroom during recess and work on the "stories" I was writ-
ing, while my 6th grade English teacher, Mrs. Roshboschil, encouraged me to
try out for the school newspaper. I ended up sending them both a copy of
the magazine that featured my first ever byline. We all have teachers who've
had an impact on us in some way. But what happens when your child doesn't
quite jell with their teacher? This month, Fredericksburg Parent features an
article with advice to help you and your child when they can't seem to get
along with their new teacher.
This issue also includes an interesting article on cell phone use in schools,
as many districts are considering limiting student cell phone use or ban-
ning them all together. It'll make you stop and think how addicted we've all
become to our phones.
However you plan to enjoy this last unofficial month of summer, I hope it is
off your cell phone.
