Supporting
Virginia's
Military Families
Supporting our friends in the Armed Forces and their families is essential now
more than ever. In this month's issue of Fredericksburg Parent & Family, we
share two articles that we hope will be beneficial to those in the military com-
munity: Amanda Danaher writes about our Purple Star military schools in Stafford
County. Schools that are given the Purple Star distinction through the Virginia
Department of Education offer support and resources to military children in order
for them to find success in their education as they deal with their unique chal-
lenges. Martin Davis also shares additional resources for military families that
might be particularly useful for young children as they navigate their place in a
military family, as well as for those who are facing deployment.
In this issue, timely for Father's Day, we also share a story about the Chonko
family and their background with the U.S. Army, as well as a profile on Matthew
Jones, who is helping all fathers find the support they need as founder and leader
of the group FXBG Dads.
With June being the official start of summer, we also have an article with travel
ideas for summer fun all within driving distance, along with a piece on water safe-
ty. Before you head to the pool or river this month, be sure to read about how
River Rock Outfitter is leading efforts to prevent drownings.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. If your celebrations involve a trip to
the Rappahannock River, don't forget your life jacket!
