26 Fredericksburg Parent and Family • May 2024 Taking top spot in Fredericksburg Parent & Family's category for private school is Fredericksburg Academy. The magazine's readers also voted for other area private schools, including Fredericksburg Christian School, Brompton Community School, and Holy Cross Academy. Fredericksburg Academy, which is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, is for ages three through 12th grade and boasts small class sizes with individualized instruction. Focused on nature-based learning on 44 acres, students also learn from experiential travel and field experiences. The foundation of the school is based on being a safe and compas- sionate community and teaching is thoughtful, persistent, respectful, and passionate. Its diversity of thought and people inspires critical thinking and self-knowledge. The school's beliefs include strength and resilience that are cultivated through achievement and mistakes, joy, and disappointment. Opportunities in the arts, athletics, leadership, and citizenship help students define their paths. WRITTEN BY LENORA KRUK-MULLANAPHY family favorites Family Favorites 2023 Winner Fredericksburg Academy In general, the school maintains a seven-to-one student-to- faculty ratio with an average of 12 students per class. All of Fredericksburg Academy's students have been accepted to four- year colleges and universities. An impressive 71 percent of the 2016 class had three or more college acceptances, and the total amount of scholarships earned by students that year was more than one million dollars. When it comes to athletics, Fredericksburg Academy's program consists of 25 teams covering seven sports, including middle school and varsity sports teams. The school competes against other private schools located in the Greater Piedmont Athletic Conference and is part of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association. Fredericksburg Academy leads in college preparatory education because of exceptional students, a world-class faculty and gener- ous parents, grandparents, alumni, and others.
