Silent Auction, Raffles, Puppies, LOV Stories Lighthouse Academy was established to protect, love, respect and appreciate the learning capacity and human potential of every child. The goal is for all students to mature into men and women of strong Christ-like character, which includes being humble yet fearless, generous to society, respectfully ques- tion, and be creative critical thinkers prepared with expansive problem-solving abilities. Established in 1981, Lighthouse Academy is a fully accredited (by the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools and Virginia Council for Private Education), non-profit Christian Montessori school that provides education for ages two through high school. A small school, it allows the teachers and administration the opportunity to know students and their families. With enrollment capped at 120 students for the school year, the priority is for each child to be successful based on his or her individual development path. Lighthouse Academy designs a program for each child based on learning style and abilities. With a student-to-teacher ratio averaging ten to one, there's ample opportunity for one-on-one teaching when necessary. The curriculum not only meets, but in some cases exceeds, the Virginia state standards. With a rigorous curriculum, the administration thinks it's critical for children to have adequate rest and play time. One parent of a preschooler wrote on Lighthouse Academy's website that her oldest son was enrolled in the Pre-K program after she checked out all the area Montessori schools. "The two years he spent with Ms. Lisa was life-changing for him," said Jaime Gorman. "Family members commented frequently on how much more self-confident he was becoming. I could see the dramatic increase in his attention span and his fine motor skills, which were the two areas of primary concern for me. Our second son is getting ready to begin Pre-K this year, and he can't wait. We have been so blessed to find such a safe, godly environment to begin our children's educational journey." Lighthouse Academy of Fredericksburg is located at 10713 Tidewater Trail in Fredericksburg. For more information about the school, its programs and more, call (540) 372-9699 or visit kidslaf.com.
