After a long, cold slog through January, February brings us Valentine's
Day, Black History Month and Dental Health Month.
Fredericksburg and Fred Parent are celebrating Valentine's Day by
showing love to our veterans. Check out the downtown shops with
signs honoring veterans provided by the local Daughters of the
American Revolution chapter. Meanwhile, at FredParent we are cel-
ebrating Leashes of Valor, a nonprofit that trains therapy dogs for
veterans. Our Fred Parent director of business development Megan
Walsh brought Leashes of Valor to our attention when she and her
family began fostering puppies for them. We are proud to feature a
puppy on our cover.
Our history column, Growing Up on Historic Ground, features a piece
on a new wayside panel on John J Wright and other African American
educators, developed by Fredericksburg Area Museum curator Dr.
Gaila Sims. For more exciting Black History Month events, check out

Finally, in honor of Dental Month, we look at changes in recommen-
dations on restraining children during dental visits. Spoiler Alert: It's
important to insist on staying with your children during scary proce-
dures. We also include an updated dental list and six ways to improve
your child's dental experience.
We couldn't fit all our stories into print this month, so be sure to
find our February Difference Maker online, along with Part 2 of our
Disappearing Daycare series, reported by our sister publication, the
FXBG Advance.
I also want to send love to the Mary Ball Woman's Club who donated
money to the Fredericksburg Area Imagination Library this month.
