www.FredericksburgParent.NET 7 When Vixx Hubbard created a series of cryptids in kid-friend- ly prints, he named them Mothman, Bigfoot and Braxxi the Flatwoods Monster. A friend saw the pictures, became enam- ored by them and joked that Hubbard should turn them into a book—and that's exactly what he did. (Cryptids, which are animals, such as Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster, were claimed to exist, but it's never been proven.) "The Cryptid Cubs" series is a brief introduction to cryptids and mytho- logical creatures in a child-friendly presentation, according to Hubbard. Each cryptid featured in the books comes with a life lesson, such as being kind and helping each other. In "The Cryptid Cubs: Little Critters. BIG Adventures!," Hubbard, of Warsaw, Virginia, introduces the cubs to young readers. Children learn their names and where they call home. Along with the main characters, they'll find out about the cryptids' friends. Readers won't want to stop there, so they'll have a chance to meet even more critters and even bigger adventures when they indulge in the second book, "The Cryptid Cubs 2: Little Critters, Even MORE Adventures!" The second book delves into tales of amazing creatures, and kids will travel the world with them as they learn more about where all of them come from. As an added bonus, mysterious puzzles to solve are found in back of the book. Hubbard's path in life has always been art. His work was featured at the Smithsonian and has been almost exclusively web-based as far as selling it. "One of my hobbies aside from creating things is taking small road trips through the Shenandoah," he says. According to a website reviewer who just finished reading and enjoying the books, the drawings by the author are out of this world. "The storyline is amazing and so uplifting. The les- son Hubbard teaches is important, indeed … take care of each other, and help those in need. I would recommend this book to everyone." "The Cryptid Cubs" series can be purchased on Amazon and other booksellers. Pouches' Book Nook WRITTEN BY LENORA KRUK-MULLANAPHY Vixx Hubbard
