www.FredericksburgParent.NET 13 The Snead's Farm Fall Festival runs Sept. 23 through Oct. 31. The farm will be open daily, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Snead's Farm will stop let- ting cars through the front gate at 5 p.m. each day. Hayrides run daily, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Weekday admission is $10 per person. On weekdays, visitors may bring their own picnic lunch to enjoy. Weekend admission is $15 per person. On weekends and Columbus Day Monday (Oct. 9), the farm hosts a variety of food vendors, and no outside food is permit- ted. At all times, children 2 and under enter for free. Pumpkins and heirloom squash of all sizes are available for purchase, clearly marked by which field they are in. The smallest pumpkins, for school groups and families alike, are $4 apiece. Jack-o-lantern sized pumpkins are $8. Jumbo pumpkins are $12. Fall is prime bloom time for our sun- flower fields, which make a scenic backdrop for photos. Cut-your-own sunflowers are $1 per stem. All activities, pumpkin picking and sunflower cutting require paid admis- sion. Dogs on leash are welcome. We accept cash, check and all major credit cards. Snead's Farm is now accepting memberships for the 2024 CSA season. CSA stands for "Community Supported Agriculture." Members receive a weekly box of produce from Snead's and several other local farms throughout the growing season. They also get carving pumpkins and fall produce in two October pickups. While Snead's Farm does not offer pick- your-own produce to the general public, CSA mem- bers have the exclusive opportunity, when supplies allow, to pick berries and other produce items from our farm fields. A full share of the 2024 Snead's Farm CSA costs $800 ($820 with sales tax), plus added transporta- tion costs for members who wish to pick up their share at Braehead Farm in Fredericksburg. Small shares are available for $550 ($563.75 with tax), plus transportation costs for Braehead. These prices will be discounted by 10% for those who join by Oct. 4, 2023. In the 2023 CSA, both shares had "broken even" on the share price when compared to the retail value of goods distributed by the week of July 17. That means the final month of peak-produce CSA boxes—plus the quadruple box and gleaning box in October—were essentially free! As the price of food has risen dra- matically in recent years, the Snead's Farm CSA share price has remained steady for more than 15 years. To join, visit sneadsfarm.com/csa.
