www.FredericksburgParent.NET 29 Choose Your Own Adventure There are so many ways you can build a day of family fun around a visit to Stratford Hall. Here are a few ideas: Audio Tours Stratford Hall has developed five different audio tours to help visitors learn about what life was like in the historic home in the eighteenth century. In addi- tion to tours focusing on the men, women and enslaved individuals who lived at Stratford, a new children's tour is now offered. This is a shorter, 45-minute tour that helps kids learn about what life was like for children growing up at StratfordHall Audio tours are easily accessed through an online app, so families can share the audio and discuss what they are learning. Hands On History Day April 15 – Stratford's Hands On History programs are an engaging chance for children to learn about many different facets of the estate's history. Great for groups as well as families, these programs include five 30-minute experiential learning activities. Take a docent-facilitated audio tour of the Great House and its grounds. Learn about colonial foodways and the influence of enslaved chefs on American cuisine while watching an 18 th- century cooking demonstration with Chef Dontavius Williams. Experience the music of the African Diaspora through drumming demonstrations by Slam Stewart. There's also an opportunity to learn about paleontology and archaeology at Stratford Hall. Pre-registration is required. Brews & BBQ May 6 – Spend a spring day at Stratford Hall, enjoying local craft beer, wine, spir- its, barbecue and live music. The festival will also feature kids' activities, historic demonstrations, a vendor market and the chance to explore the historic grounds. Save by purchasing Early Bird Tickets. Visit StratfordHall.org for full details. Fossil Hunting Excursions These run regularly through the warmer months, with the first one of 2023 tak- ing place May 7. Registration opens April 1. These guided fossil hunts are rated moderately strenuous to strenuous, and require long periods of walking, hiking, and possibly climbing over or under washed-up debris of felled trees. Children must be 8 years old to participate, and all participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Family Fun Camp 2023 Friday June 16 – Sunday, June 18 - Register now for our 2023 Summer Family Fun Camp, recommended for children ages 8 to 12!
