www.FredericksburgParent.NET 17 Has your family ever considering stepping into your own Virginia backyard? Your Virginia backyard can be an outdoor playground, customized to fit your family's interests, all within hours of your home. Where the Blue Ridge Mountains meet the clouds, you will find Primland Resort shining in all its grandeur. It is a great place to run away to and is in Meadow of the Dan in Patrick County. You can find all the COVID-19 proto- cols listed right on their website. Stay- ing in the lodge or a more private cottage are all possibilities and, if you are 21 or older, perhaps you consider staying in the treehouse accommoda- tions for a special anniversary or birth- day getaway. The sky is the limit here and the mountains are the perfect backdrop to this 12,000-acre property. The ulti- mate outdoor playground, you can try activities geared towards the ages and stages of your family. Fortunately, a Primland guide tags along with you so your family does not find itself lost in the vast wilderness. There was an entire lineup of Summer Family Fun activities ranging from Meet the Horses to Stream Critters to Kids Yoga and Family Movie Night on the Lawn, just to name a few. Many of these activities were compli- mentary for children. We were fortunate enough to try archery, pond fishing, and trail hiking during our stay. There are plenty of animals living on the mountain, and they cohabitate as if your family is the one visiting them. Spotting a black bear, and a mother doe nursing her fawn on the front field was our family's gift from the mountain. All this outdoor activity, fresh air and food would leave any family feeling sleepy, but we pressed on to do the evening stargazing. This is an authentic experience that cannot be duplicated. Enjoy your time in an open silo with a retractable roof, telescope, galac- tic images and a laser beam. We were there during a new moon so the sky was dark, but we participated in an amazing conversation. We kept the kids up way past bedtime to see the stars. The tranquility of the experi- ence was spiritual, connecting our souls to nature. I have three children, all ages 10 and under, that I brought to a 5-star resort holding my breath for 5-star behavior. To my incredulity, they rose to the occasion, and I believe it was the mountain setting bring- ing them a true inner peace. The staff was very considerate of my family, taking time to explain to them how to bait a fishing hook and cast a rod. My daughter's confidence grew after catching her own catfish, trout, and blue gill. It was a proud mom moment for me watching my three children learn primitive skills, connect with nature, enjoy farm to table meals, and then stay in the most intimate mountain luxury. We found plenty of outdoor family fun at Prim- land, right in our Virginia backyard. Health infor- mation is constantly evolving, so please check Primland's website for the latest updates. A few services had been tem- porarily suspended and there was also a gam- ing room, spa, and golf course that deserved more of our time. If you are planning a trip, the fall color is coming to Primland. Sponsored Material Primland also offered the kind of cuisine that I had been looking forward to after months of cooking my own meals at home. Perfectly prepared sides of fresh fruits and vegetables from Wood's farm produce, just outside of Primland's gates, coupled with the freshest Branzino, fully satisfied my taste buds. 24 hours at 24 hours at PRIMLAND RESORT PRIMLAND RESORT WRITTEN BY MEGAN WALSH
