26 Fredericksburg Parent and Family • Winter 2020 At a fraction of what I could have spent, I was pleasantly surprised at how well these organization and storage solutions met my needs. My top five organizational hacks: · Small baskets come in a variety of different shapes and sizes, making for convenient ways to customize drawers or larger boxes for safe, structured storage. · Coffee filters have multi-purpose possibilities, including being used to separate small items that can be grouped together but shouldn't touch. They are also great for separating glass bulb ornaments and holiday China pieces that need to be protected from being scratched. · Metal shower caddies can serve as a holiday greeting card holder with the help of a few clips and then used as a mail catch-all to help separate each family member's in-coming mail. · S-hooks are a great way to store large holiday decorations and wreaths. Repurpose an old wooden pallet and attach hooks to it for easy storage in the garage, attic or shed. · Clear, over-the-door shoe holders are an inexpensive, space-saving organizer for all those small, easily lost winter items—wool socks, gloves, mittens, scarves, hats, earmuffs, etc. I also use one in my pantry to make kid snacks easily accessible so they can grab and go throughout the year. No matter how organized I think I am, I still struggle to keep everything in its place. It's a constant battle in my house, but knowing I at least put my holiday decorations away safely and in an orderly fashion this season gives me some respite from the clutter. Bonus, it'll make setting up for next Christmas easier.
