Classes build on a child's natural enthusiasm for music and movement. They provide the basic musical skills needed to enjoy school and social musical activities. Classes may even inspire a child to study an instrument. Robyn Bauer, director of Bright Beginnings Music Together, brings music to babies, tod- dlers and preschoolers from 0 to 5 years old. She began teaching for the Alexandria- based Music Together Vivo in 2004 with classes in Fredericksburg. In 2013, she took over the program, renaming it Bright Begin- nings Music Together. Bright Beginnings Music Together Nurturing Musical Growth of Children Photo by Memories "Music is the first language children learn," says Bauer. "Parents who recognize and foster their child's musical behavior are better able to communicate with them and create lasting connections." According to Lauren Guilmartin, director of early learning, Music Together, LLC, music-making helps your child's development in many important ways. You don't have to have a great singing voice or play a musical instru- ment to have an impact. The simple and enjoyable act of making music with your child naturally fosters important social and emotional skills. These skills include self-reg- ulation, self-confidence, leadership and social skills and socio-emotional intelligence. The teachers are passionate about music and its develop- ment on children, and they create a fun, informal setting to support each child's musical development. Bright Beginnings Music Together is located at 101 Hanover Street in Fredericksburg. They offer free demo classes to curious students.
