FAMILY VALUES Knights & Princesses By ElAINE SToNE A Father — whether biological, relational, adopted or surrogate — is needed in every tiny miss babe's life. These men hold huge responsibilities for this princess's future. She'll relate to every man through her experience with this one. Dad is Her Example! Dad is Her Rock! Rutgers sociologist David Popenoe wrote, "I know of few other bodies of evidence (in social science) that lean so much in one direction as does the evidence that shows a father's relationship to his daughter is one of the key determinants in a woman's ability to enjoy a successful life and marriage." Security is the basic need of every child. Fathers primarily provide that for a family. Dad is the "fence around the yard", "guardian of the fortress" and "children's protector." Daddy's girl knows there are strong arms to care for her, shelter her and lead her through this unfamiliar world. "A child's most important relationship is the one with the parent of the opposite sex." — Kevin lehman Dad-Daughter relationships allows girls, from first breath, to learn how to share life with men. A daughter learns what to expect from the males in her world and how to respond. She learns to understand, relate to, and appreciate the differences. As she builds a relationship with her Dad, she is mastering skills to build future relationships. He is the most powerful example to her of a female-male relationship.
