Step out of your comfort zone and go to a sporting event together. Allow him to feel empowered and have him explain how the game is played. The fact you are interested in something he is an expert in is exciting to him and will open him up to wanting to tell you more. Invite him into the kitchen. Let him choose his favorite dish or desert to cook together. Allow him to measure and pour in the ingredients. Create memories and let him tell you why what's in the pan is his favorite. Give High Fives. Don't be afraid to show him you care. Say I love you and praise him often. Open the lines of communication. Remember it's not the activity you do with your son, but the attention you give him that he'll remember. Take advantage of feel good moments and most importantly have fun. Nikki Ducas is a Fredericksburg mom to an active 4-year-old. She is always planning and doing fun activities to do with her son.
