24 Fredericksburg Parent and Family • September 2019 This is a monthly column featuring winners and nominees of the 2019 FredParent Family Favorite contest. family favorites WRITTEN BY CHRIS JONES Paragon Autism Services provides important services to children diagnosed with autism, developmental delays and intellectual disabilities. Its aim is to assist clients and their families with edu- cational advocacy, family training, skill-building programs, treat- ment plans and more. The program offers intensive one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy in community and home settings for people ages 2 through 21. ABA, a scientifically validated approach for children with autism, is used to efficiently teach functional skills, improve behavior through the manipulation of environmental factors and assist with communication, self-help and socialization skills. Each client works with a behavior specialist for 10 to 25 hours a week. Additionally, families are provided biweekly training ses- sions where they are taught how to improve their child's skills and reduce inappropriate behaviors. Treatment plans are developed with the help of other specialists, such as medical professionals, occupational therapists, physical therapists, respite workers and speech therapists. Additionally, the program's staff ensures educational support by attending school IEP meetings, suggesting goals and objectives, and observing in school settings. Paragon Autism Services serves families in the counties of Caroline, King George, Prince William, Spotsylvania, Stafford and the city of Fredericksburg. Interested in learning more?
