Top Fundraisers and Fundraising Teams Featured on Mental Health America of Fredericksburg’s Website
Fredericksburg, Va. (May 1, 2016) – Fundraising competition is heating up for the 9th Annual Walk for Mental Wellness at Hurkamp Park in downtown Fredericksburg, May 14. Sponsored by Mental Health of America of Fredericksburg (MHAF), the Walk’s fundraisers have reached about 40 percent of the goal to raise a total of $35,000 to help continue MHAF’s vital mental health resources to the Rappahannock region.
“Individuals and teams registered for the one and three mile walks are encouraged to continue to get donations,” said Executive Director of MHAF Rita Girard. “The website keeps a running tally of the amount of donations earned by the top five fundraisers and fundraising teams. Each time a donation is made, it moves MHAF closer to its goal, and every donation—large and small—helps.”
There’s another incentive to raise donations for the Walk--a $25 Amazon gift card will be selected at random from the first 25 people who complete registrations for the Walk, and a $25 Amazon gift card will be selected at random from the first five team captains who register a team of three or more members whose registrations are complete. In addition, $50 Amazon gift cards will be presented to the first person who raises $1,000 and the first team that raises $1,500 online via their Walk Fundraising Page.
Each month, more than 300 people are connected with resources and treatment services through MHAF’s HelpLine, which is the only free mental health information and referral service in the region. More than 2,000 local high school students received suicide prevention training through MHAF in 2015. In addition, MHAF provides isolated, elderly citizens with free, weekly in-home visits by trained volunteers through its Senior Visitors Program. It also organizes support groups and provides education and advocacy for individuals with mental health issues.
The 9th Annual Walk for Mental Wellness registration begins at 9 a.m., and the Walk begins at 10 a.m. at Hurkamp Park in downtown Fredericksburg, May 14.
