National Adoption Day
On Saturday, November 21, Fredericksburg City Circuit Court and Fredericksburg Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will join courts across the country and open its doors on National Adoption Day to celebrate the finalization of 7 foster care adoptions in the City of Fredericksburg and to celebrate all families that adopt. This one day celebrates the joys of adoption and encourages more people to create or grow families through adoption.
The event is part of a nationwide effort to call attention to the more than 100,000 children waiting in the United States foster care system. Every year more than 4,000 adoptions are finalized as part of National Adoption Day, and communities host events to celebrate families formed through adoption. It is also a day to draw attention to the more than 22,000 children who turn 18 every year without having a forever family.
Local organizations and the City of Fredericksburg Best Practice Court Team will participate in this special day by working together to celebrate the joys of adoption and encourage more families and individuals to give children permanent families through adoption.
Congressman Wittman will also be holding an open forum specific to issues related to foster care and adoptions at Fredericksburg City Social Services on October 29 at 7pm.
National Adoption Day is sponsored nationally by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, The Alliance for Children’s Rights, and Children’s Action Network. For more information, visit www.nationaladoptionday.org
