Guided Tours of Historic Route 1
Learn the rich history of this well traveled corridor that has seen both change and growth as well as being an anchor for the city of Fredericksburg.

New this year is a Streetcar Tour of Lafayette Boulevard that will explore the growth of this important corridor through the 20th century. Lafayette Boulevard has changed dramatically from the time it was called Prussia Street, to its addition of National Boulevard, to its current title of Lafayette Boulevard. See what buildings have lasted through the 20th century and which ones have now disappeared with only the stories left to tell.

This year we are happy to announce the addition of a Walking Tour of Princess Anne Street. If you didn't go on the Streetcar Tour of this intriguing road last year, this is your chance to see what you missed. Learn how the small town of Fredericksburg became the by-way for so many travelers in the early 20th century. Gas stations, tourist homes, and eating establishments developed along this road, then a two-way street, to cater to the growing number of residents and tourist clientele. Learn about the 500 block of Princess Anne St, historically known as home to African American businesses, what block they used to spin records on, and where the Fredericksburg skyscraper was located.

Tickets will be on sale soon, check back for information or email route1@hffi.org to get your name on the list to be alerted when they are available for sale.
