Happy New Year!! A new year always brings with it a sense of excitement for me. To me (someone who loves goals and to-do lists) it's a time to reflect on myself and make some changes. What I always seem to notice about my resolutions is that at least a few always have some sort of artistic aspect to help me explore my creativity. This year, I am going to complete a weekly creative writing prompt, learn to do pottery, print family photos on a monthly basis for our yearly scrapbooks and hopefully take some salsa lessons!

It's hard not to feel artsy in this cultural little town, it's bursting at the seams with local artists and opportunities to learn the arts. First Fridays, local galleries, painted murals downtown, workshops and Parks & Recreation art shows, oh my! Art comes in many different forms; Drawing, painting, collage making, scrapbooking, cooking, photography, pottery, and much more. You're never at a loss of something new to try around here.

We at Parks & Rec wanted to foster an environment where your family can dip their toes in some of those areas of interest without a huge financial investment. We give you a place to try those different types of hobbies or skills you have always been interested in trying but just never did because of time, you didn't think you would be good at it, or whatever excuse you choose. But this year let's be BOLD!! Take a new class, learn a new skill, and just try something new and really fun that just might become an exciting hobby or skill.

Whatever you do, just remember you don't always have to be perfect especially in art, you just have to be brave enough to color outside the lines.
