A Friendly Reminder.

January 9, 2014

How much fun is that guy having?

Hello there! Is everyone still pumped about the New Year? I don’t know why, but I have a feeling that 2014 is going to be fantastic. If you’ve fallen behind on your resolutions (we’ve ALL been there), don’t stress over it. Seriously. Just pick yourself up and get back to it! You got this!

Resolutions aside, there are some practical things that should get added to your January To-Do list. Things I always tell myself I’ll do, but never get around to. This year will be different! This year, I will complete at least half of these items. Who cares that the month is half way over? Huzzah!

January To-Dos:

  1. Sort through Christmas decorations and put them away Brenda.
  2. Flip your mattress and run a vacuum over it. Mattresses should be flipped every 6 months to prevent pre-mature wear.
  3. Change air filters in your home. Start off the year with clean air! These filters should be changed periodically, as well.
  4. Clean your vacuum’s filters (if bag-less). My Dyson’s manual suggests cleaning them every 3 months.
  5. Change over all files both business and professional. That is, unless you’re paperless. If so, high-fives!
  6. Check you credit report. You can do that once for free on annualcreditreport.com. Make sure to look for any kind of identity theft.
  7. Set up a place in your house to put important tax information as it arrives. I’m talking W2’s, 1099s, mortgage interest statements, proof of charitable donations, all of that. If you use your vehicle for business purposes and plan on deducting the mileage (Ask a tax professional about this. I AM NOT A TAX PROFESSIONAL), make sure to have your mileage logbook handy, as well.
  8. Make sure everyone’s birthdays are on your calendar. Bonus pts for collecting cards in advance.
  9. Also, make sure future dentist, veterinarian, and doctor’s appointments are added to any new calendars or day planners.
  10. Start planning and saving for summer vacation.
  11. If pre-k is in this year’s plan (It’s in ours!) start touring pre-schools. Most begin accepting applications, in February.
  12. Being planning your garden. Seed catalogs should be arriving, shortly.
  13. Set aside an area in your garage/basement/storage room/etc. for items you either want to sell during springtime yard-sales, cosign, or donate.
  14. Make your Valentine’s Day reservations or plans. I know it sounds crazy, but Valentine’s Day has a way of sneaking up on you.
  15. Have a date night with your partner completely gadget and social media free.
