July is Park and Recreation Month and we are encouraging YOU to go OUTside, get INspired, change your OUTlook and get INvolved through Fredericksburg Parks & Recreation.
Studies show nearly three in 10 U.S. adults do not spend time outside on a daily basis according to a recent survey conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of NRPA. This July, we want everyone to make a concerted effort to break this trend and spend more time OUTside and IN our parks and recreation facilities in order to lead happier, healthier and more balanced lives.
During Park and Recreation Month, we suggest that you aim to set new trends: take something you normally do indoors and do it OUTside. Hurkamp Park is a great place for a family picnic, Old Mill Park is perfect for an outdoor workout with the family, and our new Pickleball courts at Memorial Park might become a new hobby for the whole family!
Other perfect activities to get you OUTdoors and INvolved:
- Cinema on the Circle at UMW (in Ball Circle) on July 14, 21 and 28. Free. Family movies. Visit bit.ly/cinemaonthecircle for details on movies
- Game Night at Dixon Pool on July 16. All ages. $2/person
To celebrate Parks & Rec month, we are hosting a Facebook only weekly contest to see just how INvolved you are in our community! Each Wednesday at 12:00pm we will post a question and the prize for that question. Just by leaving a comment, you are automatically entered to win! Winners will be announced Mondays at 12:00pm.
Here's how to enter: Like us on Facebook at FredParksRec and check your feed at NOON on Wednesdays for the question and prize! Comment on the post and that's it!
Want a chance to win MORE prizes?
The National Recreation & Parks Association is hosting #JulyOUTisIN. This 31-day challenge encourages all people to try to do one typically INside activity OUTside everyday in July. Capture your OUTside activity with a photo and post it on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #JulyOUTisIN. NRPA will award a daily prize at random to a Twitter or Instagram follower who posts a photo with the hashtag #JulyOUTisIN. Visit NRPA Challenge to learn more!
