Hello, September!!!

September 7, 2013

I was planning to write a “Goodbye to Summer/Back to school” post, but as I was writing it I realized that accepting the inevitable change would be more positive than lamenting what I'm losing. (I'm certainly not missing the pounds that have disappeared!) Since beginning my weight loss journey (and writing this blog), I have worked on the concept of “keep moving forward”. I didn't coin it that in the beginning. However, after hearing a radio host speak of his triathlon training and applying that approach in other aspects of his life, it really resonated with me. This change in weight has allowed me so many opportunities, I want to continue with the rewards. So I am welcoming September; the impending fall foliage; new jeans and sweaters; and the return of quiet days (as my kids have returned to school).

Goals for my weight loss and subsequent fitness progress include the following: I have committed to losing another 10 pounds, which will give me a “healthy BMI”. Also, I have committed to running a ½ marathon in December to celebrate my surgery anniversary. Additionally, I'm participating in one of those 30-day fitness challenges you see on Facebook (Squats/Pushups/Cardio and Crunches). Hopefully, I can firm up my backside which is a bit droopy these days with loose skin.

This week I've enjoyed visiting with parents/friends I didn't see all summer at school during parent pickup. (I’m still working on accepting those compliments.) I will miss my days of lying in the sun and playing with the kids at Kings Dominion, but I relish the cooler weather for running and look forward to hunting with my husband and kids on the weekends. Fun continues to be my mainstay for this journey. And really, who wouldn't cherish that?
